Helping Families Navigate the Digital World: A Recap of Our Screen Addiction Event
10. 2. 2025This week, our school hosted an important event for parents and students, addressing the challenges of screen addiction in today’s digital world. We welcomed Mr Rok Gumzej, an expert from LOGOUT – Centre for Digital Wellbeing, who provided valuable insights into how families can establish healthier digital habits and manage screen time effectively.
For Parents: Setting E-Rules at Home
During the session for parents, Mr Gumzej explored modern digital addictions, their causes, and their impact. Through real-life examples from LOGOUT, parents gained practical advice on setting e-rules at home – understanding what to look out for, recognizing the most common challenges, and learning strategies to overcome them. The session emphasized that digital addiction is not just a problem but also an opportunity for the whole family to reassess their screen habits and create a balanced digital environment together.
For Students: “The Phone is Neither the Problem nor the Solution”
In a dynamic workshop titled “The Phone is Neither the Problem nor the Solution,” students delved into the root causes of digital addiction. They learned about the signs and consequences of excessive screen time and were given practical strategies to self-regulate their device usage. The discussions were lively, with students showing great enthusiasm and curiosity. Many expressed the desire for more sessions like this – an encouraging sign that they recognize the need for open discussions on this highly relevant topic.
We want to extend a big thank you to all the parents who participated and contributed with insightful questions. It clear that addressing digital addiction is a shared responsibility and an opportunity to strengthen family connections.
A special shoutout to our students – your thoughtful contributions, interest, and willingness to engage in meaningful discussions were truly inspiring! It was fantastic to see that students acknowledge the importance of balance in the digital age and to witness their eagerness for more conversations on this topic.
